At this point, I feel like these photos and this post are a little late, but I wanted to share the work my dear friend/sister in law Amy and I did for Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is THE event of the year in my family, closely followed by Passover. It is always at my parents house, and there is always a MINIMUM of 25 people. This year I think we reached 30. Thanksgiving is also my absolute most favorite holiday. I love it so much that my husband actually proposed to be on Thanksgiving a few years ago.
Anyway, Amy and I really wanted to up the decor ante this year. We are both always so inspired by color trends, especially autumnal ones. We used bright green Granny Smith apples wrapped in gold twine with an autumn colored leaf attached for seating arrangements. We wrote the names of the individual on the leaf with a gold paint pen.
Each table was covered in antique lace table cloths with a parchment paper runner down the center. Along the runners, we spray painted unshelled nuts gold*, as well as a 24 karat pumpkin for each table. At the food store (on the day of), we found shopping carts filled with "Autumnal Bouquets" marked down 50% or more. We probably bought close to 10, and then pulled them apart and created our own arrangements. We filled the flower vases first with a small layer of the gold nuts, then cranberries. Each table was then lit by some small votives.
Everything came out very beautiful and elegant. I just wish I had some better quality photos to really showcase our hard work.
*Tip for spray painting nuts: Put them in a plastic food store bag, and spray directly in to it. Shake the bag, and repeat several times. Oh yeah-- cover your mouth. Trust me.
